I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished together during my first term as your County Commissioner.
We’ve been laser focused on improving County services, solving traffic problems, protecting water sources, supporting small businesses, and keeping neighborhoods safe – especially better preparing for wildfires and severe weather. We also worked to address speed limits near schools, fix drainage issues, clean up nuisance properties, and facilitate brush pick-up after the February 2023 ice storm.
As Commissioner I was also pleased to support major investments in COVID-19 vaccinations, responding to the opioid crisis, creating more safe and affordable housing, expanding mental health care programs, and supporting County employees by increasing salaries and our minimum wage. We additionally worked together to reform our criminal justice system, reduce gun violence, and fight food insecurity.
During my first term I also gained invaluable experience and insights and built strong new working relationships while serving on the regional planning bodies CAMPO and CAPCOG, as well as on the Housing, Emergency Services, Information and Technology, and Veterans subcommittees of the Commissioner’s Court. I additionally served as Treasurer of the County’s housing corporations.
In a second term, I want to keep working for and with you to make more progress on these issues and others. Precinct 3 is at the intersection of intense growth happening to the north in Williamson County, to the west in Burnet County, and to the south in Hays County, while Travis County and Austin also continue to transform. Ensuring that your County government is responsive to fast-changing needs requires diligence and persistence on the part of the Commissioners Court, and I am ready to keep working to deliver energetic leadership and efficient, effective public services.
I encourage you to please email me any specific policy questions you may have, and I will provide a direct response. Thanks – and I ask for your vote in the March Democratic Primary!
